Book-It Legal, LLC (referred to in this Policy as "Company", "We", "Us", or "Our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it through our compliance with this policy.
This policy describes the types of information we may collect about you or that you may provide when you visit www.bookitlegal.com and use or access the related software, services, features, and content (collectively, the "Platform"). This policy also explains our practices for using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information to others.
2. Types of Information Collected
You may provide Personal Information, including your name, company name, school name, class year, date of birth, email address, postal address, phone number, work experience, and interests to us when you:
(a) fill in a form on the Platform, such as when you register or update the details of your User account, or when you supply identification and other verification information;
(b) access or use the Platform, such as to apply for or post Projects, pay for services, post comments or reviews, or communicate with other Users;
(c) respond to surveys that we may ask you to complete for research purposes;
(d) carry out transactions through the Platform, which may require you to provide financial information;
(e) communicate with us; and
(f) share information (including uploading documents) with other Users.
You may choose to publish or display (hereinafter, "post") information to the public on some areas of the Platform, and you may use the Platform to transmit information to other Users or third parties (collectively, "User Contributions"). You make User Contributions at your own risk. We cannot guarantee that your User Contributions will be viewed only by persons you intend to see that information.
We receive, store, and process information when you access or use the Platform. As you navigate through and interact with the Platform, we may use automatic data collection technologies to collect certain information about your equipment, browsing actions, and patterns, including, but not limited to:
(a) details of your visits to the Platform, including traffic data, location data, log data, and the resources that you access and use on the Platform; and
(b) information about your computer and internet connection, including your IP address, operating system, and browser type.
The information we collect automatically is statistical data, and we may maintain it or associate it with Personal Information we collect. It helps us to improve the Platform and to deliver a better and more personalized service, including by enabling us to:
(a) estimate our audience size and usage patterns;
(b) store information about your preferences, allowing us to customize the Platform according to your individual interests;
(c) speed up your searches;
(d) recognize you when you return to the Platform; and
(e) increase the Platform’s functionality and to detect suspicious activity.
The technologies we use for this automatic data collection may include, but are not limited to:
(b) Web Beacons. The Platform (and our emails) may contain small electronic files known as web beacons (also referred to as clear gifs, pixel tags, and single-pixel gifs) that permit the Company, for example, to count Users who have visited those pages or opened an email and for other related website statistics (for example, recording the popularity of certain Platform content and verifying system and server integrity).
We do not collect Personal Information automatically through web beacons, but we may tie this information to personal information you provide to us.
We may, either directly or through third parties we engage to provide services to us, collect information related to your use of our Platform for purposes of our own customer support, analytics, research, product and services development, fraud prevention, risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and investigation, as well as to enable you to use and access the Platform and pay for any fee-based use of the Platform.
3. How We Use and Process the Information You Provide or Make Available
We use, store, and process information that we collect about you or that you provide to us (including Personal Information):
(a) to enable you to access and use the Platform and to communicate with other Users;
(b) to operate, protect, improve, and optimize the Platform, our business, and our Users' experiences, such as to perform analytics, conduct research, personalize or otherwise customize your experience, and to provide customer service;
(c) to help create and maintain a trusted and reputable environment on the Platform;
(d) to send you service, support, and administrative messages, reminders, technical notices, updates, security alerts, and information you request;
(e) to send you marketing and promotional messages and other information that may be of interest to you, including information about the Company and our services;
(f) to comply with our legal obligations and enforce our legal rights; and
(g) for any other purpose with your express consent.
4. Disclosure of Your Information
We may disclose Personal Information that we collect about you or that you provide to us:
(a) with your express consent;
(b) to contractors, service providers, and other third parties we use to support our business, such as transactional email and customer support services;
(c) if we believe it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, or valid legal process. If we are going to release your information in response to a legal demand, our policy is to provide you with notice unless we are prohibited from doing so by law or court order (e.g., an order under 18 U.S.C. § 2705(b)). We may disclose your information without giving you prior notice if we believe it is necessary to prevent imminent and serious bodily harm to a person. Nothing in this policy is intended to limit any legal objections or defenses you might have to demands to compel disclosure of your information, including demands from the government;
(d) if we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of Book-It Legal, LLC, our customers, or others;
(e) to fulfill the purpose for which you provide it;
(f) for any other purpose disclosed by us when you provide the information; and
(g) to a buyer or other successor in the event of a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other sale or transfer of some or all of the Company's assets, whether as a going concern or as part of bankruptcy, liquidation, or similar proceeding, in which Personal Information held by the Company about Users of the Platform is among the assets transferred.
When a Project has been completed, we may ask you to rate and review the other User completing or assigning the Project. If you choose to do so, your rating and review may be public on the Platform. Likewise, another User’s review of you may be made pubic on the Platform.
We may also publish, disclose, and use aggregated information, meaning information about all of our Users or specific groups or categories of Users that we combine together so that it no longer identifies or references an individual User, without restriction, including for purposes of industry and market analysis, marketing and advertising, and other business purposes.
5. Choices About How We Use and Disclose Your Information
We strive to provide you with choices regarding the Personal Information you provide to us. We have created mechanisms to provide you with the following control over your information:
6. Accessing and Correcting Your Information
You can review and change your Personal Information by logging into the Platform and visiting your account profile page. If you completely delete all such information, your account may become deactivated.
You may also send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org to request access to, correction, or deletion of any personal information that you have provided to us. We cannot delete your Personal Information unless we also delete your User account. We may not accommodate a request to change information if we believe the change would violate any law or legal requirement or cause the information to be incorrect.
If you delete your User Contributions from the Platform, copies of your User Contributions may remain viewable in cached and archived pages or might have been copied or stored by other Users of the Platform. Access to and use of information on the Platform, including User Contributions, is governed by our Terms of Service.
7. Data Security
We have implemented measures designed to secure your Personal Information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. All information you provide, including payment information, document uploads, and messages exchanged between Users, is transmitted over an encrypted connection secured by Transport Layer Security (TLS) technology and encrypted at rest when stored via Amazon Web Services S3 cloud storage.
The safety and security of your information also depends on you. You are responsible for keeping the password you use to access certain parts of the Platform confidential. We ask you not to share your password with anyone.
We also urge you to be careful about the information you post in public areas of the Platform like message boards or in communications with other Users. The information you share in public areas may be viewed by other Users of the Platform.
Please understand the transmission and storage of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we do our best to protect your Personal Information, we cannot absolutely guarantee the security of your Personal Information.
When you use the Platform to share information or files related to a Project, that data will be made available to the User(s) with whom you have chosen to share such information and documents. Those User(s), and not the Company, will be responsible for maintaining the privacy and security of information and documents related to your Project in accordance with our Terms of Service and any additional arrangement you enter into with those User(s) (e.g., any non-disclosure or confidentiality agreement).
9. Children Under the Age of 13
The Platform is not intended for persons under 13 years of age. If you are under 13, please do not use or provide any information through the Platform. If we learn we have collected or received Personal Information from a child under 13, we will delete that information.
